Our Family Christmas

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name call Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins." ~ Matthew 1:21
'Willie' resting by the Christmas tree.
Christmas Eve we watched "It's a Wonderful Life" and an old VHS of Christmas music. On Christmas day (later in the afternoon), we opened presents. :)  It was a fun time together!  I am so thankful for the greatest gift of all, the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ!
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. ~ Luke 2:11

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
~ John 1:14

O Sing a song!

 Picture from Allposters

"O sing a song of Bethlehem,
Of shepherds watching there,
And of the news that came to them
From angels in the air:
The light that shone on Bethlehem
Fills all the world today;
Of Jesus' birth and peace on earth
The angels sing alway."

My Favorite Reading Plan

I know this time of year many people are thinking about what Bible reading plan they will use in the new year.  About a month ago I started a reading plan that a friend recommended: PROFESSOR GRANT HORNER'S 'TEN LISTS BIBLE READING SYSTEM'.  It involves reading 10 chapters a day from 10 different books of the Bible. You are encouraged to read through quickly, not to speed read but to just read steadily through.  It is amazing to see how all of scripture ties together making each reading fresh and interesting.  I would highly recommend this method!!  I love it!
HERE an article about the method and the man who developed it.

If you are on Facebook here is a link to his page there.

If you try this let me know what you think.
Happy reading!

Mom's Birthday!

 Yesterday was Mom's birthday!
We made her favorite quiche for her meal, and a peppermint ice cream cake for dessert.  In the afternoon we watched the film "Miss Potter" and then played a game. :)
 Yum!

I am so thankful for my mother and all she has done for me.
She is so creative and always encourages us to be creative with what we have.
She taught us girls at home, something I am truly grateful for and want to do for my children someday.
She is always there for us!

Happy birthday MOM, I love you!!!

In Which is a Birthday

The birthday rose from Dad!

My sisters prepared a delicious meal....
 ....Cashew Turkey and rice!

Ana made Pavlova..with bananas, blueberries...
...and strawberry sauce, for my 'cake'.  It is a very light, airy dessert and quite yummy!

 Smile!!

In the afternoon, we watched the Tribute to the Cathedral Quartet DVD that I had bought a couple months ago and was saving for this very day!  It was quite good!!
In the evening we played Sequence, and then listened to a CD from the Semper Reformanda conference.
It was a good birthday. :)

One of my Favorite Christmas Recipes!

Peppernuts

3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon anise extract OR crushed anise seed

In a  large mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar at medium speed for 15 minutes. Reduce speed and slowly add flour and anise.  Mix until well combined.  On a lightly floured board (or counter), shape dough into ropes about 1/2 inch in diameter.  Slice into 1/2 inch pieces.  Place on greased cookie sheets.  Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes or until set.  Cookies will harden upon standing.  When cool, store in airtight containers; they are best if allowed to age before serving. (I personally think they are best fresh!) Can be frozen.  Yield: 30 dozen.

Enjoy!!!

Peppernuts

Yesterday I made up a batch of one of my favorite Christmas treats, Peppernuts.  We've been making these for several years now and I always look forward to their chewy texture and delicious anise flavor!  Yum!

"Jimmy Valiant" Kickstarter Campaign

JIMMY VALIANT: SCIONS OF DANGER is an action/thriller film which tells the story of James Valiant — a young maverick soldier-for-hire who is estranged from his rather unique family. When an anonymous client recruits James to shadow a controversial Texas State Senator, James initiates an investigation that uncovers some startling truths, and brings him face-to-face with the last man in the world he ever wanted to see again.
