An Anniversary!

 

Yesterday, the 26th, was Dad and Mom's anniversary!  

We cooked supper over the camp fire, and Ana spent the afternoon baking and decorating this beautiful cake which we had for dessert.  Well, they had it for dessert...we girls had s'mores! ;)  

I am so thankful for my parents!!!!!

We girls often go for walks down our gravel road, and if our neighbor's horses are in the pasture near the road, they usually come to the fence and stare at us when we walk by.  So we stop and look at them too. :)

This is my favorite of the three horses they have. :)

An Open House!

Sunday afternoon .... The weather was a bit rainy, the clouds looked ominous, and the gravel roads gave us a wild ride as we went to a friend's graduation open house; never a dull moment!
It rained at the open house but thankfully that was all as later we heard that there had been a tornado that afternoon in the cities just a few hours away. We are thankful for the Lord's protection as we traveled to our friend's home and while at their place.

Wives and Daughters

Tuesday we girls went over to a friend house for a movie afternoon.  We watched Wives and Daughters together which was such fun!  My sisters and I had seen the movie a few years ago and weren't sure if we liked it then, but we thought we needed to give it a second chance.  I'm so glad we did, for we really enjoyed it!  Some of the dresses were so beautiful and feminine, it made me want to cut out a dress and get sewing!

 Molly Gibson was a wonderful example of a true lady.  She has a loyal heart, is intelligent and quietly confident, kind and selfless, modest, and speaks her mind when it is right time to do so.  I also loved her relationship with her father.  And the fact that good virtue wins out in the end.

Congratulations Kaitlyn!!

 Sunday afternoon we went to our friend Kaitlyn B's graduation party.

 We enjoyed helping serve food and visiting with friends!

Mitch and Mr. Johnson started playing away on their guitars and soon Josh joined in with singing!

Truck + Mud = Family Project

 

The truck got stuck in a wet muddy spot by the shed and we spent yesterday afternoon getting it unstuck.

 Since it was at a slightly up-hill slant and the ground is so soft, the tires spent a lot of time spinning....

 ...spraying people with mud....

 ...and digging trenches.

 Finally, we discovered that an old rug worked quite well for giving traction and preventing the truck from sinking down into the lawn.

Success at last!!

It was a lot of work, but it was fun to work on a project together!

Exccentric hats

It seems that almost every lady that attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton last Friday wore a hat!  There were many different styles...some were lovely and some I thought were just plain strange.

A few pretty ones:

The New Royal Couple

We girls watched a video on the internet of highlights from the wedding and enjoyed it very much! I was delighted with the dress Kate chose - it covered her shoulders, had sleeves, and had a very classic look. (Although I was not so excited about the low cut neckline.)

It looks similar to the one Grace Kelly (left) wore in 1956:

Some interesting bits and facts....

The official cake, designed by Fiona Cairns, was made from 17 individual fruit cakes and decorated with cream and white icing.They included 900 individually iced flowers and leaves of 17 different varieties, including daisies to represent innocence and lavender for luck. The cake even included a garland design around the middle matching the architectural garlands around the top of the Picture Gallery.To whoops and cheers from friends and family, it was cut with a ceremonial sword.

 

A commoner by birth, Miss Kate Middleton became Her Royal Highness Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, on her marriage to the second in line to the throne. But the title, as with other women marrying into the Royal Family, is a courtesy rather than a right. Although the Prince's spokesman said he was "honoured" to become the Duke of Cambridge, he had let it be known that he would prefer to remain Prince William and for his wife to become "Princess Catherine".

 

Prince William has a job as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot.

 

The new Duchess of Cambridge wants to live life as a normal housewife to Prince William and keep her public engagements to a minimum. Kate Middleton has said she wants to enjoy life as an "ordinary RAF wife" in the rented farmhouse the couple share in Anglesey, North Wales. Sources have told the newspaper that Kate wants to model herself on her mother-in-law — Camilla, Duchess of Cornwell — who insisted on having only a "supporting role" following her marriage to Prince Charles in 2005.
